How to make Silver Wire Crochet Pearl Earrings

Silver Wire Crochet Earrings

These easy to make, attractive silver wire crochet earrings measure 4.5cm (1 and 3/4 inches), not including the earwires and are made using chain stitch.  If you have not crocheted before you might like to practice with wool.
Regardless of your experience if you have not used wire before it is a good idea to practice with cheap thin wire, before you embark on making jewellery.  You can then progress to more expensive wires.
Things you need
  • 1 metre of soft wire size 0.5mm
  • Crochet hook size 5.50mm/I
  • Round Nose Jewellery Pliers
  • Wire Cutters
  • 4mm glass pearls - 18
  • Ear wires - 2

Step 1

Slide 9 pearls or beads of your choice onto the wire as 1a.  Leave 3 inches of wire (as 1b) at the end before you make the initial loop (you will use this to complete the earring).

1a and 1b

Step 2
Put the wire around the hook and loop back as 2a and 2b. This is the inital loop. (If you prefer you could instead form a slip knot whereby your draw the wire through the loop, but I find this more difficult with wire).

2a and 2b

Step 3

Holding the crochet hook between your thumb and index finger of your right hand, hold the wire coming off the reel with your thumb and index finger of your left hand.  Pass the hook under the extended wire and then bring the first pearl up to the crochet hook along the wire - 3a. Draw the overlapped wire through the first loop already on the hook - 3b forming the first chain.    Do this over the wide part of the crochet hook as the wire will not stretch!

3a and 3b

Step 4
Next bring the second pearl upto the crochet hook as before (3a and 3b) to create the next chain.  Try to keep the loops the same size.

4a and 4b

Step 5

Measure 3 inches of wire after the last bead and cut the wire.  Loop the wire around the hook and pull it through the loop securing the chain of beads - 5a and 5b.

5a and 5b

Step 6
You then should have something similar to 6a.  Next put one end of the wire through the end loop of the other end to join into a circle - 6b.

6a and 6b
 Step 7

Hold the two ends of the wire together with the jewellery pliers.  Carefully twist the wire around to make a stronger wire for the loop to attach the earwires to - 7a.  Move the pliers down the twisted wire and make a loop around the wider part of the pliers and then loop the wire around the base to make secure.

7a and 7b

Step 8

Cut the excess wire off - 8a and attach the earwire - 8b.

8a and 8b

And you have your finished earring.  Make another one and enjoy wearing them or they make a lovely gift!
